What a shitty movie.
No, it was really a shitty movie. BUT, I did enjoy it...does that make sense? Well, let me explain, I watched the film the other night after studying for a really important exam coming up in a couple of days. I thought, hey I need to watch a film that will require not competent thinking on my behalf, something with tons of explosions, no character development, rely heavily on CGI, and has an easy to follow script. So I check out the my DVD shelves for a particular director -- Michael Bay.
Now, I have nothing against this guy...he's very successful in his line of work, he may not have the artistic capability, but he does bring in the money for his investors and the studios and thats why he continues to direct today.
I go over the list, Armageddon, Bad Boys 2, The Island(shittiest Bay film), and I came upon Transformers 2 DVD that my brother bought.
Let me first start off with what I did enjoy about this film, before I go on a long tangent of the negative aspects.
The CGI is amazing on this film, I truly appreciate the effort that went into this as it was pretty much required in every scene and I know how long the process takes just to create each film frame. According to Bay, "The visual effects were so complex it took a staggering 38 hours for ILM to render just one frame of movement; that meant ILM had to increase their processing facilities While. ILM(George Lucas Graphics Art Co.) used 15 terabytes for the 2007 film, on the sequel they used 140TB(That is a lot!).
For the first film, they had problems with the continuity of the Robots Size...some scenes they were bigger than a building, other scenes the same robots were small enough to pick up a pair of normal sized glasses with their hands.
But again, this film had amazing graphics and I really enjoyed that about it. In fact thats the only thing I liked about the film, were the robots and found that there is no need for humans to be in this film. But no, we had to deal with 'cheesy moments galore', from the lame college scenes, to the boring military crew led by some of the worst actors ever -- Josh Dummal & Tyrese
What I did enjoy in the beginning was when they were trying to capture that robot in China, the effects and pyrotechnics were cool...but for fucks sake, having it in every scene just got repetitive and boring. By the end of the film, right after that cheesy moment where Shia LaBeouf's character 'tragically' died, they had that major explosion scene...which just made me say aloud 'enough is enough'
In the end, I knew what I was going to expect with a Michael Bay film -- explosions, lack of characters, cool CGI, explosions, inspirational speeches(not included in this one), scenes of the pentagon, bad ass Military Soldiers, explosions, lame jokes, etc etc etc
Its a fun movie, but for all the wrong reasons, these types of films could be made into drinking games. Its hardly enjoyable to watch the same things over again...and what a shitty storyline. Hopefully...what am I saying, the 3rd film will have the same shit in this one.
